PHJ Policy on Generative AI & AI-Assisted Technologies
This policy outlines the ethical use of AI in the scientific writing and peer review process for the Pistachio and Plant-Based Health Journal (PHJ). It applies only to the writing process, not AI for data analysis.
For Authors:
Permitted Use: AI tools can be used solely to enhance language and readability.
Disclosure Required: All AI use in writing must be disclosed in the manuscript. A statement will appear in the published article.
No AI Authorship: AI cannot be listed as an author. Authorship requires human accountability for accuracy, originality, and responsibility.
Image Restrictions: Creating or altering images with AI is prohibited, except when AI is integral to the research methodology itself (e.g., AI-assisted imaging) and is thoroughly explained in the Methods section, including tool specifics. Minor adjustments (brightness, contrast) are allowed if they don’t alter information.
For Reviewers:
Confidentiality: Manuscripts and review reports must not be uploaded to AI tools to protect confidentiality and intellectual property.
No AI for Review: AI should not be used to assist in the scientific assessment of a paper. Peer review requires human critical thinking and accountability.
Journal Commitment: PHJ supports AI technologies that uphold confidentiality, data privacy, and scientific integrity throughout the editorial process.
